About Pete

Pete is a professional freelance trombone player based in West Yorkshire. From a young age, Pete has shown a passion and aptitude for music and began playing tenor horn with his local brass band at age 6. During his time at school, Peter started learning trombone, trumpet, vocals and percussion while performing with a number of Leeds City youth ensembles.

After school, Pete studied at Leeds Conservatoire and was privileged to receive tuition from some of the UK's top musicians including Kev Holborough, Sebastian De Krom, Jim Corry, Callum Au and Steve Fishwick. During his time in higher education, Peter studied a variety of modules including Arranging for Large Ensemble, Musical Direction, Composing for Film and TV and Community Music among others. Peter graduated from Leeds Conservatoire with a BA(Hons) in Jazz Music.

While working in the music industry, Pete has been honoured to work with some of the world's top working musicians and performed with the BBC Radio Leeds Big Band, working with Clare Teal, Gregory Porter, Tim Rice, Olly Murs and Ian Shaw. Peter has also performed with a variety of ensembles of different genres performing around the country and internationally is currently a regular trombone player with 'Ferg's Imaginary Big Band' and 'The Neville Staple Band: From the Specials'.

As well as his work performing, Pete also composes, arranges and produces music as both a freelancer and for his own projects including his own jazz ensemble the 'Pint Sized Big Band'. He has also composed the music for 2 musical plays performed at the Edinburgh Fringe, arranged horn parts for several ensembles and has composed and produced music for magicians 'Morgan & West'. Pete has also composed, arranged and produced music on a freelance basis and is currently available for commission work.

Another of Pete's passions is education and he currently provides 1:1 brass and music theory lessons both in schools and privately. He has seen students through both ABRSM and Trinity music exams and teaches all brass (with the exception of French Horn) and music theory. Peter is DBS checked and holds Qualified Teaching Status, he is available for both in-person and online private lessons, workshops and masterclasses.

As well as performing as an instrumentalist, Pete also provides DJ sets featuring music from a variety of genres, but specialises in 2Tone, Ska, Reggae and Northern Soul. He is availible to hire for private and public functions including birthdays, weddings and festivals and can provide his own PA and equipment.

Pete is a member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians and has full Public Liability Insurance.
